What is your current level of experience in freelance work?
Looking for an experienced fractional CTO or technical lead to help guide the technical direction of a small but established SaaS company in the email marketing space (ESP). The product is stable and revenue-generating, but is being held back by legacy code, poor documentation, and slow development velocity. We’re at an inflection point: we know we need to modernize the stack, improve usability and reliability, and bring in more technical leadership. You’d be stepping in to help chart that path, with autonomy and influence from day one. What you’ll do: - Audit the system: Review our codebase and infrastructure, document key risks and bottlenecks -Scope a modernization plan: Help us decide what to rebuild vs. refactor, and how to simplify - Assess the current team: determine whether to retain, retrain, or restructure current systems and team based on what’s best for the business - Guide hiring: If a transition is needed, help us vet and bring on a high-output, AI-first developer. (AKA they heavily leverage AI tools to do heavy lifting and speed up their dev work.) - Support decision-making: Work with a non-technical operator to make smart technical choices with business outcomes in mind What we’re looking for: - Former CTO or a strong strong generalist engineer - Comfortable diving into legacy systems and identifying fast, safe paths forward - Believes in using AI to move faster and write better code - Able to work independently and communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders - Bonus: Experience with ESPs, email deliverability infrastructure, PowerMTA or SMTP protocols Details: - Time commitment: ~10 hours/week to start with the opportunity to grow, flexible hours, fully remote - Compensation: hourly or flat-rate for the initial engagement (audit + planning phase)
