Karaoke Gaming App -- Evolve from MVP to Full Scale
IMPORTANT NOTE This role is ideal for an engineer who loves music, singing and karaoke. COMPENSATION This role begins with equity and will build towards above industry average compensation. CURRENT STATE The app launched in January '25, and has 700+ downloads across 20+ countries (90% US). 5% of free trial customers have converted to paid users. In-app purchases range from $1.99 - $79.99. The primary barriers limiting scaling are: inconsistent technical oversight, unstable playback of user voice audio, video buffering, UI/UX, technical vision. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Own and optimize the backend architecture to improve app performance and reliability. - Debug and refactor existing code to eliminate persistent product failures. - Implement and optimize AWS Transcribe for speech-to-text functionality. - Integrate and optimize Agora Streaming for real-time audio and video performance. - Ensure seamless syncing of music, video, and audio for an optimal user experience. - Oversee app store procedures (Apple & Google) to ensure smooth updates and compliance. - Set up best practices for development, deployment, and ongoing technical operations. - Work closely with the founder to align tech strategy with business growth. - Manage and coach our offshore development team. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR - Senior-level backend engineering experience (Python, Node.js, or relevant stack). - Experience with AWS Transcribe and Agora Streaming (or similar technologies). - Strong understanding of scalability, API development, and database management. - Expertise in syncing music, video, and audio in a live or recorded environment. - Familiarity with Apple App Store and Google Play Store submission & approval processes. - Proven track record of troubleshooting and stabilizing apps post-launch. - Willingness to work for equity only until the business scales. Located within 4 hours of EST (US, Canada).
