Product Designer Needed: Interactive Magnetic Skill Toy Prototype (US Based)
I'm seeking an experienced product designer based in the US or Canada to create a complete design package and functional 3D-printed prototype for an innovative magnetic skill toy with viral potential. The project, called ORBIT STICK™, is a skill-based toy that creates the illusion of a ball defying gravity as it orbits around a wand using magnetic principles. What's Included: Complete Design Package: - Detailed 3D CAD files in both native and standard formats (STEP, STL) - Engineering drawings with precise dimensions and tolerances - Material specifications and manufacturing recommendations - Assembly documentation and instructions Physical Functional Prototype: - High-quality 3D printed prototype of all components - Sourcing appropriate magnets for the functional mechanism - Assembly of the complete prototype - Basic testing to ensure the magnetic interaction functions as designed Project Management & Collaboration: - Weekly progress updates - Revisions based on feedback (up to 2 rounds) - Final delivery of all design files and the physical prototype Requirements: Location: Must be based in US (non-negotiable for IP protection) Experience: Expert-level knowledge of product design, particularly with: - Toy design or consumer products - Magnetic interactions & mechanisms - Manufacturing considerations for injection molding - Design for assembly principles Technical Skills: - Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar) - Ability to create production-ready engineering drawings - Understanding of material properties and selection - Experience coordinating with 3D printing services Timeline: 2-3 weeks for complete design and prototype delivery Milestone-based payments will be set up as follows: Initial design concept approval (25%) Final CAD files and engineering drawings (40%) Delivery of assembled, functional prototype (35%) Intellectual Property: - All designs, concepts, and deliverables will remain my exclusive property - NDA required before project details are shared - No portfolio use without written permission - Complete transfer of all IP rights upon payment How I'm choosing / selection process: - Portfolio showing relevant product design experience - Experience with magnetic or mechanical toys/products - Knowledge of manufacturing processes - Strong communication skills and responsive to feedback - Ability to deliver both design files & physical prototype
