Typist needed to type long PDF document into Microsoft Book software

Overview or summary 1) The assignment is straight-forward – a (fully typed) PDF manuscript has to be typed into a Microsoft Book Template Word Program – so it can undergo rewriting and editing. 2) The job is only typing and will not be expanded to include editing or proofreading. I am trying to make this clear at the initial phase to better make sure the right consultant is aligned with the specific task at hand. 3) I have a (fiction) novel manuscript from my son that was completed in 1983 (before computer word processing had become standard). That manuscript was fully typed-up into a hard copy. Recently, the hard copy has been scanned and converted into a fully-legible PDF format – which facilitates electronic transfer as required. 4) The PDF manuscript is long, 715 pages, typed double-spaced onto one sided 8 ½ X 11 pages. The objective, as you would expect, is to type the entire into one Book Template program. 5) The fiction manuscript has a very standard format – standard paragraphs – comprising standard pages - divided into chapters. 6) The typing job for the Upwork consultant will essentially follow/replicate the format in the PDF. That will equate to double-spacing the main body of the text – and adhering to the successive individual chapters presented in the PDF as well as the intra-chapter divisions presented in the PDF. 7) Lastly, the Microsoft Book Template Program is very simple and no more complicated than standard Microsoft word. Initial contract phase 1) The goal is to establish a good relationship with a single freelancer who would complete the entire document. 2) However, the initial contract assignment will consist of 156 pages (Chapters I-VII) – to evaluate how well this initial phase of work goes – before committing to the complete manuscript. Please note – I certainly hope and would like to continue with one freelancer – to avoid the complexity of having to find a new freelancer. So, assuming the initial contract is completed reasonably in accordance with the terms of your accepted proposal, it can be expected all the remaining work will be assigned to the initial consultant. 3) It is requested that the consultant complete typing the initial 50 pages and forward them to me for review and payment; subsequently it is requested that the consultant complete typing pages 51-100 pages and forward them to me for review and payment; and lastly it is requested that the consultant complete typing the remaining 56 pages and forward them to me for review and payment.4) While the initial contract is set at 156 pages – only freelancers prepared to complete all 715 pages should respond to this proposal. Cost Estimate 1) I respect that most typists set forth their cost in terms of an hourly wage. While I seek a reasonable cost, by no means is cost the major criteria submitting the lowest bid. 2) However, given that this typing project is so long - I don’t feel it is feasible to commit to an hourly rate with a guaranteed maximum price. That can be a two-edged sword – and I truly want to avoid a contract where a freelancer feels locked into a long money-losing obligation (that the freelancer her/him-self willing proposed). 3) While I am open to suggestions on pricing – my initial preference is to require a cost-per-page. That way my likely maximum cost can be clearly estimated. And I suggest you set the cost per page, such that the number of pages you will generally complete in an hour equates to your hourly wage. So effectively you get to submit a proposal based on your approximate hourly wage. And if your hourly wage is comparatively on the high side - then please explain what offsets of improved quality you offer. Logistics 1) Once a consultant contract is signed, I will send you the 156-page initial typing assignment via the standard internet protocol used by Upstart. 2) The typing of the assignment will thereafter be completed in accordance with the terms of our contract. 3) The files can be transmitted and shared via standard internet protocol used by Upstart.
