Part-Time CFO or Controller for Accurate Financial Closures and Tax Compliance
Description: We’re a fast-growing, family-owned U.S. company that sells school uniforms through multiple retail stores and a national Shopify e-commerce site. We’re looking for a part-time Controller to help us scale, clean up processes, and deliver timely, audit-ready financials. This is an ongoing remote role for someone who’s experienced, detail-oriented, and confident owning the full accounting function—not just bookkeeping. ⸻ Responsibilities: • Own the month-end close: journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, etc. • Maintain inventory & COGS accuracy across retail + e-comm. • Build and update 13-week cash flow forecasts; identify risks early. • Set up and manage internal controls for A/R, A/P, refunds, and store-level cash. • File multi-state sales tax returns (currently LA, TX, CA). • Work with our CPA firm on tax prep and year-end review. • Help build dashboards and KPIs across channels and departments. ⸻ Requirements: • 5+ years of Controller or Assistant Controller experience • Strong U.S. GAAP, retail/e-commerce accounting, inventory costing • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel/Google Sheets, and Shopify integrations • Excellent written communication and follow-through • Comfortable using time tracking software • CPA preferred but not required ⸻ Details: • Hours: 10–15 hours/week, flexible, but must be available during U.S. Central Time mornings for close or urgent questions • Length: Ongoing We’re a lean and fast-moving team, and we’re looking for someone who takes full ownership of the numbers.
