What is your current level of experience in freelance work?
I’m building a fast-growing YouTube channel that produces documentary-style videos using public records, including police bodycam footage, 911 calls, incident reports, and public safety materials. I’m looking for a smart, organized virtual assistant or paralegal who can take over the public records request process from start to finish. This is a long-term opportunity for someone detail-oriented, discreet, and consistent — ideally with past experience handling open records or FOIA requests in any U.S. state. ⸻ Your Responsibilities Will Include: • Submitting 5–10 public records (FOIA/open records) requests per week • Using templates provided or adapting as needed per agency • Following up with agencies by email or phone when needed • Tracking responses and deadlines in a shared Google Sheet • Forwarding received reports, videos, or updates ⸻ Requirements: • You will submit and follow up on requests • Professional, polite communication — many contacts are city/county agencies • Strong organization and consistency with email follow-ups and tracking • Willingness to learn agency processes (many are online, some require persistence) ⸻ Bonus Points: • Prior experience with FOIA, public records, or legal work • Familiarity with state records laws (especially Georgia, Florida, Texas, California, etc.) • Journalism, legal, or criminal justice background ⸻ Compensation: • Hourly rate or per-completed-request pay structure • Bonuses available for helping source new stories that get published • Long-term potential with regular work weekly if you’re reliable ⸻ This is ideal for someone looking to work behind the scenes on something meaningful, efficient, and public-service-oriented — while helping grow a successful Media outlet. Let me know if you’re the right fit!
