What is your current level of experience in freelance work?
We’re looking for a fractional HR partner to support a critical transition at our company. As we convert ~10 team members from 1099 contractor status to W-2 employees, we need someone with experience in onboarding, multi-state compliance, and small-business HR to help build a compliant, repeatable structure. Scope of Work: 1. W-2 Onboarding (Transition Phase) Finalize offer letters and employment agreements Support onboarding through Gusto Create a standardized onboarding checklist/SOP 2. Multi-State Compliance Confirm employer payroll registration and filings in: New York (HQ) New Jersey (1 remote employee) Illinois (1 remote employee) Assist with Workers’ Comp setup/verification in each state Ensure state tax withholding is properly set up (via Gusto or manual filings) 3. Employment Policies & Documentation Review and finalize employee handbook/addenda Ensure compliance with local labor laws (e.g., sick leave, reimbursement) Build documentation and processes that support ongoing compliance 4. Ongoing Fractional Support (Optional) Serve as point of contact for HR onboarding and compliance Help scale HR operations as we grow (10–15 W-2 employees projected in 2025) Ideal Candidate: Familiar with Gusto Comfortable working with companies under 25 employees Strong grasp of multi-state HR compliance, payroll, and benefits Available on a project basis or for 10–20 hours/month If interested—or if you know someone who may be a fit—please reach out.
