Senior AI Engineer — Memory, Data & Language (Freelance) Location: Remote | Commitment: Part-time (10–20 hrs/week) Compensation: Competitive hourly rate or milestone-based; equity considered About Motherload AI Motherload AI is a next-generation emotional support platform for mothers — using conversational AI and behavioral science to reduce the mental and emotional load of modern motherhood. We're not building “just a chatbot.” We're building a personalized, emotionally intelligent system that earns trust over time, adapts with consent, and gives mothers a space to feel seen, understood, and in control. Co-founded by Allison Robinson (Founder of The Mom Project) and Dr. Pam Cohen (behavioral scientist), our mission is deeply grounded in human experience and scientific rigor. Why This Role Matters This is more than a build — it’s a chance to shape how AI supports people in emotionally complex moments. We’re looking for a senior engineer who can architect a lightweight, privacy-first system and lay the groundwork for a scalable, ethically-tuned AI companion. If you care about human-centered AI, consent-driven memory, and building systems that truly help people — we’d love to talk. What You’ll Own Note: UX and interface flows are complete and ready in Figma. MVP + Architecture Build a modular MVP using a React-based PWA (web-first, installable) Integrate OpenAI’s GPT-4 with structured conversation flows and tone-aware prompt templates Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) using Pinecone or Supabase + LangChain / LlamaIndex Memory + Personalization Enable opt-in, user-controlled memory, including: recall, delete/edit, pause, and ephemeral mode Support user agency with clear memory boundaries and explainability Feedback Loops + Fine-Tuning Scaffolding Design ethical, opt-in-only data loops to track emotional impact, clarity, and tone effectiveness Begin building a feedback tagging system to support eventual fine-tuning or RLAIF (reinforcement learning with human feedback) Modular Prompt Logic Collaborate with non-engineers to maintain an Airtable- or CMS-connected prompt system Enable prompt versioning, live testing, and easy iteration without hardcoding Who We’re Looking For We’re not hiring for prestige. We’re hiring for thoughtfulness. You should move fast and care deeply. You think about what tech shouldn’t do as much as what it can. ✅ Must-Have Experience: LLM Integration: GPT-4 / Claude / RAG pipelines Memory & Personalization: Pinecone, Supabase, LangChain, LlamaIndex Modular Prompt Systems: CMS- or Airtable-managed prompt logic Front-End: Clean, modular React builds (PWA preferred) Privacy & Ethics: Consent-aware architecture, data minimization, transparent memory Bonus If You’ve Worked On: Therapeutic, coaching, or journaling tools AI alignment, fine-tuning, or RLHF Consent/agency-forward mental health products What to Send Us A short note on why this mission resonates with you Links to 1–2 relevant projects or repos Your rate, timezone, and availability What We’ll Ask You to Walk Us Through One project where you: Integrated an LLM + memory system Managed emotionally sensitive flows or edge cases Empowered a non-engineer to manage or iterate prompt logic Extra Points You’re asked to build memory for a conversational app helping moms navigate burnout and guilt. How would you design memory so that: It’s emotionally safe, Users stay in control, Future conversations feel more helpful, yet also avoids the system sounding like a therapist
