What is your current level of experience in freelance work?
We're seeking an experienced Jitsi Meet DevOps/Infrastructure consultant to help us scale and optimize our self-hosted telehealth video platform. Current Setup: Single Jitsi Meet server (we've implemented a custom UI via lib-jitsi-meet) Single coturn server for NAT traversal Auto-scaling JVBs (Jitsi Video Bridges) via an AWS Auto Scaling Group ~500 concurrent conferences during peak hours (primarily 1:1/p2p, max 4 participants currently) Project Goals: We're ready to evolve our infrastructure to support greater scalability and regional fault tolerance. Our goals: 1. Multi-Shard Architecture Set up multiple regional shards within the US Design for potential future expansion outside the US Implement shard selection logic 2. Auto-Scaling & JVB Tuning Optimize and auto-scale JVBs within each shard Configure regional routing logic based on latency/geography Tune JVB performance for low-latency, high-concurrency use 3. TURN Server Scaling Optimize and horizontally scale coturn for high performance and reliability Improve handling for ICE, NAT, and STUN scenarios 4. Logging & Monitoring Set up observability: Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, or similar Capture metrics on call quality, CPU/memory usage, participant counts, etc. Alerting for dropped calls, overcapacity, network failures 5. Documentation & Handoff Clear, step-by-step documentation for managing Jitsi upgrades and shard operations What We’re Looking For: Proven experience with scaling Jitsi Meet in production Deep knowledge of JVBs, shards, XMPP prosody, and coturn Experience with AWS, Terraform, Ansible, or other IaC tools Familiarity with telehealth / HIPAA-compliant deployments (a plus) Expertise in monitoring/observability stack (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) Strong communication skills and documentation habits Engagement Type: Freelance contract, short-term to start (~20–40 hours over 4-8 weeks) Potential for ongoing support and improvements
