What is your current level of experience in freelance work?
These are the essential duties expected of a freelance editor in addition to a finished product that is visually captivating, smooth moving graphics, streamlined transitions, sonically engaging, and emotionally impactful: PRODUCTION AGENDA NOTE: Client uses Camtasia Pro editor by TechSmith. Freelancer is advised to at least download the free version to streamline collaboration and exporting files. 1. RAW FOOTAGE 1ST FEW DAYS OF FOOTAGE CLIENT REVIEW OF EDITS 2. TALKING HEAD/VOICE OVER/MUSIC DYNAMIC CONTENT COMPLETION WITH CHANNEL BRANDING CLIENT REVIEW 6. SHORTS SELECTION FOR THE TRAVEL SERIES. 7. BRANDING/OPTIMIZATION THUMBNAIL, TITLE, DESCRIPTION, SEO, WATERMARK CLIENT REVIEW 8. PROJECT COMPLETION TASK LIST Director (client) will be responsible for bringing the vision to life with videos, photos, and audio voiceover. Client has archives of great travel footage from a mobile phone - mostly shot in vertical, and drone, that would be presented to viewers as current travel in an engaging and inspirational format, i.e., Animated Background. EDITOR SHOULD LABEL THE PROJECT AS LABELED BY THE CLIENT TO AVOID CONFUSION WITH MULTIPLE PROJECTS IN THE SAME TRAVEL DESTINATION. Editor needs to adapt vertical 9:16 footage into aesthetically pleasing 16:9 that keeps the viewer engaged enough to watch the full-length video. NOTE: 9:16 WILL BE USEFUL FOR YOUTUBE SHORTS, TIKTOK SHORTS, AND INSTAGRAM REELS. Editor will be responsible for using/editing 80+% of the client's content into a cohesive visual story. A certain amount of footage should be set aside for exclusive short content so that viewers of the long-form video see something different and stay engaged. The format focus is long-form video content for YouTube. Editor shall not alter the files being shared by the client, rather files should be downloaded and edited on your local drive. Scripting will be done after editing to customize the talking points in a voiceover or talking head, whichever best suits the footage. Editor will need to read Vegan Travel Asia by VegVoyages itinerary, either one provided by client or visiting VeganTravelAsia.com, if the raw footage is one of their tours. Music and sound effects can be selected after the scripting is completed, but the editor is welcome to insert music and SFX. Medium-and-short form videos can be generated after the long-form has been completed. Two week-long tours will be broken down into two long-form (1-week per) travel vlogs. Goal is to keep longs at/below 1-hour duration, including opening and closing. May need to spread over 2+ weeks and label it as a Series. Daily activities will serve as standalone videos for in-depth coverage of the long-form presentation video, i.e., Playlists. For easy transitions, please indicate “Day 1,” “Day 2,” etc. as you complete each file folder for the video. When possible, the location of the day should be identified in the marker, e.g., Day 2 New Delhi. Having those daily markers in the video will help with the scripting and comparison to the raw footage. Day transitions should have a variety of effects, e.g., masking, double exposure, grouping, and moving graphics. Aiming to avoid long-form videos that are “too long” and potentially lose the viewer. Mid-forms and shorts extracted from the long or produced separately will provide daily content each day of the week, at least Monday through Friday. Director, at his discretion, might choose to share file folders of smaller portions of the tour for editing purposes to preserve the chronological format desired, e.g., Days 1 through 3. Director wants to minimize the potential for convoluting the content by the editor if the footage is taken out of chronological sequence. Editor should work on one day at a time because several activities are happening per day that have subplots to be used as mid-forms and shorts. Note: Occasional image and video shares will be included out of sequence. It should be obvious when that is the case because it will be out of place with the rest of the footage. Move it to the appropriate setting, if it is even usable. Remember: The 80% rule means 20% will not be usable/relevant. Follow the timestamps on the photos and video to ensure chronology of video flow. Even though this is old footage, it should still occur to the viewer as happening “now.” We can view early edits on a Zoom meeting to avoid cloud space limitations of sharing files back and forth for the same project, or the editor can share a link of the storage location for the director to view. Editor should have access to premium music, SFX, moving graphics, B-Roll, and AI tools. Client is willing to pay for a subscription - Artlist and Epidemic Sound seem to be the premier subscription services - if it is too difficult to find royalty-free world music in the regions being produced. Most Pro-level editors offer royalty-free music, stock footage, and other assets, so it should seldom be the case that the Client is paying for a freelancer's subscription already in use for other client work. Otherwise, free music is preferred, e.g., YouTube Audio Library, NoCopyrightSounds (NCS), CreatorMix (Nick Nimmin), etc. Editor should expect to timestamp and chapter the videos for the ease of the viewing audience. NOTE: CAMTASIA HAS THIS FEATURE. Editor should expect to perform some translating functions due to the international nature of the content and target audiences. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an acceptable technology for editing and repurposing long-form into mid-and-short-form videos, but should not be relied upon for shaping the narrative of the content. It Can also be used for generating script ideas. The client has great ideas to contribute to the content creation process and should be the first point of contact for clarifying the narrative. Editor is a freelancer and not an employee. Editor should be able to provide a good timeframe for availability to complete the project and days of the week the work will be performed. Editor will provide a tangible time tracking method for the client to understand billing and to manage costs (e.g., Upwork Timesheet). Editor will observe the strictest of privacy with the client's content. Editor will honor pricing and deliverables expectation provided in their respective profile, including the original price point (e.g., $25/hr.) vs. the upwardly adjusted price point once work begins (common in Upwork). The client is receptive to flat rate projects once a rhythm has been established with format and workflow. Honor the community guidelines of the platform used for engagement (e.g., Upwork), including regular check-ins to ensure timely deliverables and accurate expectations. Editor should be willing to share basic editing knowledge with the client to educate and further refine clients expectations for task completion. Editor might be allowed to showcase the client's work with expressed written consent from the client. Editor is expected to complete the current project to the client's satisfaction before terminating the working relationship. Editor is expected to deliver all edited footage to the client if payment is expected to finish the relationship. Editor is to delete all of the client's images, videos, and other proprietary information upon delivery to the client when the relationship is terminated. Either party can terminate the relationship after the current project and all deliverables have been received by the client. Feel free to ask questions at any time during the project to clarify tasks. Thank you for your interest in this opportunity.
