Fractional CFO for CPG and SaaS Model Builds

We are looking for a Fractional CFO who can fully own client engagements from start to finish. You must be highly skilled at building clear, usable financial models quickly. Models should be easy for non-finance stakeholders to understand and use for decisions. You will also manage the entire engagement process, including timelines, communication, task prioritization, and internal coordination. This is a client-facing, hours-managed role that blends strategic finance execution with strong project management. You’ll act as the day-to-day finance lead for clients and escalate to our firm’s co-founders when needed. Responsibilities: -- Build decision-ready financial models in Excel or Google Sheets -- Customize models for budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and unit economics -- Plan and manage engagement phases and timelines -- Set agendas and lead client check-ins -- Respond to client messages within 1 business day -- Coordinate with client team members to gather inputs -- Manage time and tasks to stay within project hours -- Communicate tradeoffs or delays proactively -- Use the Upwork timer only (manual time will not be approved) -- Keep client informed about how time is spent -- Coordinate with co-founders when strategic input or escalation is needed Requirements: -- Experience as a fractional CFO or finance lead for investor-backed businesses -- Strong modeling skills in Excel/Google Sheets -- Ability to explain complex financial topics clearly to non-finance audiences -- Excellent project management and client communication -- Comfortable managing evolving scopes and fast-paced timelines -- Must use Upwork’s time tracker (manual hours not allowed) Bonus if you have: -- Experience with CPG, SaaS, or manufacturing companies -- Background in consulting, VC/PE, or internal finance roles at early-stage or growth-stage companies -- Built finance tools, templates, or workflows that have been reused across clients To apply: -- Share 1 to 2 examples of financial models you’ve built and what decisions they supported -- Briefly explain your approach to managing client expectations and timelines -- Confirm that you are comfortable using the Upwork time tracker exclusively
