Senior Database Administrator – SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Multi-Platform
We are a growing GIS consultancy looking for an experienced Database Administrator to assist with the administration, performance tuning, security, and migration of SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases, with a focus on spatially-enabled GIS data. While most of our clients operate on Windows with SQL Server, we occasionally encounter Linux environments and other database platforms, so versatility is a plus. Responsibilities Implement best practices for security, user management, system performance, and backups. Assist in database migrations (on-prem to cloud, version upgrades, and cross-platform). Optimize database performance and troubleshoot issues. Support AWS RDS, Azure Database Services, and other cloud-hosted database services. Work as an on-demand resource, available for projects and support requests as they arise. Qualifications 8+ years of experience in database administration. Expertise in SQL Server and PostgreSQL; experience with other RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL, etc.) is a plus. Experience with Linux-based database administration. Familiarity with spatial data and Esri's ArcGIS software suite (preferred but not required). Experience managing databases in AWS RDS and Azure Managed Databases. Strong understanding of database security, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (or equivalent certifications). Preferred Skills Experience with business intelligence (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS). Performance tuning and query optimization. Cloud database migration strategies. Scripting experience in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation. We’re looking for someone highly skilled and dependable who can work with our team as needed to solve complex database challenges.
