Our mission is to automate and optimize the way network security is validated and tested. We operate within a controlled lab environment, working with a variety of networking devices from multiple vendors to evaluate their configurations and security postures. **Role Overview** We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer on a part-time 1099 contract basis (~20 hours per week), with the potential to transition into a full-time role as we grow. In this position, you will concentrate on **testing, validating, and troubleshooting security configurations** within a **lab setting**. **Key Responsibilities** • **Configure & Troubleshoot Security Features**: Address SSH hardening, IPSec VPN, firewall filtering, and access control policies across devices from Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Aruba, HPE, and more. • **Analyze Logs & Packet Captures**: Diagnose and resolve complex network and security issues. • **Identify & Resolve Security Gaps**: Uncover misconfigurations using a methodical, process-oriented approach. • **Own the Problem**: Proactively investigate root causes, follow through on resolutions, and keep stakeholders informed. • **Collaborate & Communicate**: Work closely with a small, distributed team, sharing findings and improvements clearly and consistently. **Who You Are** • **You have deep, hands-on experience** working with routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN headends from multiple vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Aruba, HPE, etc.)—with a strong focus on security. • **You possess exceptional troubleshooting skills** and a natural instinct for identifying and resolving issues without relying solely on standard guides. • **You are process-oriented and methodical**, following established workflows while also refining them to drive continuous improvement. • **You are self-directed**, taking initiative and managing your workload effectively in a remote environment. • **You take full ownership** of tasks and problems, ensuring they’re seen through to completion. • **You excel at communication**, proactively sharing updates, clarifying requirements, and collaborating with a distributed team. **Nice to Have** • **Network Security Testing Experience**: Familiarity with compliance evaluations or automated validation frameworks. • **Relevant Certifications**: CCNP Security, JNCIP-SEC, PCNSE, or equivalent. • **Automation & Scripting**: Experience with tools and languages (e.g., Python, Ansible) to automate network testing or configuration. **Contract Details** • **Remote**: Flexible working hours (~20 hours/week). • **1099 Contract**: Part-time arrangement. • **Growth Potential**: Opportunity to transition to full-time as the company expands.
