Bookkeeper / Accounting Professional for Residential Construction Business

We are a General Contracting business specializing in custom home remodeling and residential property flips in the Greater Orange County area. Our company is family-run—my wife, a licensed real estate agent, has managed our books for the past 5 years. With our first child arriving soon, we are looking for an experienced accounting professional to step in and support the financial side of our operations. What We’re Looking For: We’re seeking a detail-oriented and proactive bookkeeper with experience in construction or real estate to manage our weekly accounting tasks. You’ll help us track job costs, generate project-specific P&L reports, and provide a clear picture of our financial performance on a weekly basis. Your role will be crucial in keeping our business organized and financially sound as we continue to grow. Responsibilities: • Weekly bookkeeping, including categorizing expenses and reconciling accounts • Preparing and maintaining accurate project P&L statements • Monitoring job costs and flagging discrepancies or budget issues • Generating weekly and monthly financial summaries for ownership review • Preparing financial documentation for year-end audits (workers comp & general liability) • Assisting in the preparation of annual reports for submission to our CPA for tax filing • Collaborating closely with us to understand our current systems and adapt to our methods of organization Qualifications: • Proven bookkeeping/accounting experience, ideally in construction or real estate • Proficiency with GoogleSheets or similar accounting software • Strong organizational and communication skills • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines • Experience preparing documentation for insurance audits and CPA tax reporting is a plus • Knowledge of job costing and project-based accounting is highly preferred Workload & Commitment: • Estimated 5–10 hours per week • Flexible schedule, but we prefer consistent weekly updates and availability for quick check-ins Why Work With Us: You’ll be supporting a growing, family-operated business with a strong local reputation.
