Customs/Tariffs Lawyer or Specialist
I need a specialist/consultant in international shipping, customs and tariffs to help me navigate shipping risks and understand tariffs. I run a very small company that has just started importing product from China (lots of $5,000 at a time). These will grow over time and I need to get smarter about a few things: 1. Shipping Insurance: my manufacturer tells me that shipments are insured but never provides paperwork. I understand my lot sizes are small to them, but I would like to know what happens if my container ship sinks. I want to understand how I get my money back and from whom. 2. Chinese Tariffs. They'll be 20% or higher starting April 2. I need to understand EXACTLY how they work. Who pays it? When? To whom? (Treasury, CBP, etc). How long will my shipment be delayed? How do I prevent it from being held up in customs? 3. My product is card/board games. One of my manufacturers tells me that "games are tariff free" the other tells me they are adding my tariff fee to the total price and that their customs broker will pay the tariff on my behalf. I have no idea who to believe and I want clarity BEFORE I pay and have them ship.
