Commercial Construction Estimator
Select Development Group, a leading General Contractor based in Southwest Florida, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Commercial Construction Estimator. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, extensive knowledge of construction materials and methods, and the ability to deliver accurate and timely cost estimates for a wide range of commercial projects. This position is essential to securing new work, supporting preconstruction planning, and ensuring project profitability. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including new builds, renovations, and tenant improvements across diverse scopes and sizes. Build comprehensive, trade-specific quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam, PlanSwift, and other estimating tools based on architectural, structural, MEP, and civil drawings. Break down and categorize costs by labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and general conditions, ensuring accuracy and clarity in cost projections. Identify key assumptions, inclusions/exclusions, and scope clarifications for each estimate to support transparency and minimize risk. Analyze and level subcontractor and vendor proposals to confirm scope coverage and cost competitiveness. Prepare pricing for allowances, alternates, and change orders throughout preconstruction and bidding phases. Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive quantity takeoffs and cost breakdowns. Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors during the preconstruction phase. Solicit, evaluate, and analyze subcontractor and vendor bids to ensure competitive pricing. Identify scope gaps, constructability issues, and cost-saving opportunities. Develop conceptual budgets during early project phases with limited documentation. Maintain a current and accurate database of historical cost data and unit pricing. Assist in value engineering processes to align project scope with budget. Participate in bid strategy meetings and prepare bid proposals for public and private clients. Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings to gather essential information. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating. Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, and Microsoft Excel. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, building codes, and contract documents. Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously. Preferred Skills Experience with Buildertrend or similar project management platforms. Familiarity with commercial construction in the Southwest Florida market. LEED certification or knowledge of sustainable construction practices.
