Copyright Permissions Specialist for Educational Curriculum

I’m seeking a contractor with experience in securing copyright permissions from book publishers and online content providers to use excerpts, articles, or images in educational curricula. As an online curriculum designer, I regularly create lessons and units that engage students in critical thinking. I often find powerful excerpts from books or articles on websites that I would like to include in my curriculum, but I need assistance navigating the permissions process. While I want to ensure that I’m respecting copyright and licensing laws, I currently have very little knowledge in this area. I need someone who can: -Teach me the basics of copyright permissions, licensing, and fair use (especially in educational settings). - Create canned email templates that I can use to request permissions from publishers and online sources, including strategies that have worked in the past. - Provide sample agreements or outlines explaining different permission types (e.g., one-time use, ongoing use, print vs. digital) and what they mean. - Guide me through the best practices for requesting, tracking, and documenting permissions. This is not just about doing the work for me—I’m looking to learn the process so I can feel confident managing it moving forward! Key Responsibilities: - Meet with me (virtually) to explain the permissions process and answer my questions in plain language. - Draft 2-3 permission request templates with proven strategies (e.g., for book publishers, online articles, images). - Outline types of copyright agreements I may encounter, with explanations of terms like licensing fees, duration, scope of use, etc. - Provide general best practices and guidance for copyright compliance in education. Ideal Candidate: - Experienced in securing copyright permissions, particularly for educational or curriculum-based projects. - Familiar with fair use, educational exemptions, licensing agreements, and how these apply in the U.S. - A great communicator who can break down complex legal concepts in an approachable way. - Organized and able to create clear templates, outlines, and guidance materials.
