Contract Embedded Hardware Engineer w FPGA programming for imaging application

Over the course of this engagement, you will design and deliver a compact, low-latency imaging board that captures high-speed data from an image sensor and routes it directly into FPGA-connected memory. This board will serve as the core hardware platform for a real-time 3D scanning system. Your responsibilities will include selecting components, creating the schematic and layout, and ensuring the board supports clean, high-throughput data capture and processing with stable timing and signal integrity. In parallel, you will be responsible for implementing our real-time image-processing pipeline directly on the FPGA. Our software team has already developed these algorithms in C++, and your job will be to translate them into efficient, synthesizable hardware using VHDL, Verilog, or high-level synthesis (HLS). This will require careful attention to both functional equivalence and performance optimization, as the system is designed to operate under tight latency constraints. Once the board is fabricated, you will lead bring-up and validation. This includes verifying power and clock distribution, capturing first-light frames from the sensor, and debugging any issues at the board or FPGA level. You will also be responsible for integrating output interfaces—such as PCIe, USB, Ethernet, or direct-to-storage—ensuring the processed data can be streamed or saved reliably. We currently have an open position for a full-time Embedded Hardware Engineer, and this contract role may conclude once that hire is in place and fully up to speed. However, that process will take time, and this work is needed urgently. For the right candidate, we would also consider converting this role into a full-time, on-site position. Throughout the project, you’ll collaborate with our internal software and systems engineers to confirm that FPGA outputs match expected results and that the hardware meets overall system requirements. You’ll also deliver full design documentation, including schematics, layout files, bill of materials, RTL source code, build scripts, and bring-up/test procedures to support a smooth handoff to the incoming full-time engineer.
