Description: The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is seeking a consultant to support the successful launch of our upcoming performance appraisal cycle. The performance module in BambooHR is already configured, but we need expert support to revise the appraisal content, deliver training to staff and managers, and improve how we set, track, and discuss goals across the organization. We are a mission-driven nonprofit with a team of nearly 80 people. Roughly half are full-time staff based in the U.S., and the other half are located around the world, with a mix of full-time and part-time roles. We need someone who can help ensure this process is inclusive, efficient, and meaningful across time zones and employment types. Scope of Work: The consultant will: -Launch the performance appraisal cycle using revised self and manager questions, including: *Adding questions about how frequently employees meet with their manager to discuss work and receive feedback, and ensure there is an expectation of this happening once a week. *Any other after discussion with management. -Guide the inclusion of SMART goal-setting frameworks -Train managers on: *Using BambooHR’s performance module *Writing high-quality, useful feedback in appraisals *Preparing for and holding effective appraisal conversations -Train staff on: *How to thoughtfully complete self-appraisals, including responding to questions and reflecting on progress *Setting clear, actionable goals using BambooHR’s goal-setting feature and understanding how to enter and update goals in BambooHR -Update existing self-appraisal and manager guide documents (hosted in Notion) -Develop a simple reporting or tracking method, within BambooHR or externally, so the People and Culture team can monitor: *Goal-setting completion *Appraisal submission (self and manager) *Confirmation that a performance conversation has occurred between the manager and their direct report. Deliverables: -Final set of self and manager appraisal questions for this cycle, ready to launch in BambooHR -SMART goal-setting training materials -Updated manager and self-appraisal guides (in Notion) -Training sessions for: *Managers: how to use BambooHR, provide written feedback, and conduct appraisal conversations *Staff: How to complete self-appraisals and set goals in BambooHR -A tracking mechanism or process to monitor: *Goal entry and completion *Appraisal submission *Confirmation of performance discussion meetings -FAQ or troubleshooting reference for BambooHR performance module Ideal Consultant Profile: -Experience running or advising on performance appraisal cycles for nonprofits or mission-driven organizations -Strong working knowledge of BambooHR’s performance module -Familiarity with SMART goal-setting frameworks -Experienced facilitator, comfortable leading practical, values-aligned trainings for varied audiences -Able to work quickly and collaboratively with People and Culture and Operations teams -Experience working in or with nonprofits preferred Timeline: We aim to launch this cycle soon. Work would begin as early as possible, with deliverables phased over 3 to 4 weeks.
