Senior Mechanical Engineer – DFMA Specialist We are an innovative team that has patented a specialty HVAC tool. We have working prototypes that have been tested and now we are nearing the final design stages. We are seeking an expert in DFMA to optimize our product for efficient and cost-effective production." Project Goal: We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) efforts. Your primary objective will be to analyze and refine our existing mechanical design, ensuring it is fully optimized for high-volume manufacturing and streamlined assembly processes, while meeting all performance and quality requirements. Key Responsibilities: Conduct thorough DFMA reviews of existing mechanical designs, identifying opportunities for part count reduction, simplification, improved manufacturability, and ease of assembly. Apply DFMA principles to re-design or modify components and assemblies for cost reduction, improved quality, and manufacturing efficiency. Collaborate closely with the design team, manufacturing partners, and suppliers to implement DFMA recommendations. Develop and refine 3D CAD models (e.g., using SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or similar) and create detailed 2D manufacturing drawings. Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper fit and function. Advise on material selection and manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, die casting, machining, sheet metal forming, etc.) to optimize for cost and scalability. Prepare detailed documentation of design changes, analysis, and DFMA reports. Ensure the final design is robust, reliable, and ready for mass production. Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in mechanical design, with a significant and demonstrable focus on applying DFMA principles. Proven track record of successfully optimizing designs for manufacturability and assembly, resulting in tangible cost savings and efficiency improvements. Please be prepared to discuss specific examples. Proficiency in 3D CAD software (please specify preferred software if any, e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor). Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes, materials science, and associated costs.
