We're assisting Cindie Jamison in publishing Shards in My Hair: Tales from Breaking the Glass Ceiling, which tells her story of being a mother of young children while climbing the corporate ladder all the way to the top. Her vague idea is that she'd like it to embody the feeling she had of being overwhelmed, of juggling a million things between being a mother and a business executive, and would also love to tie into the "breaking the glass ceiling" idea. She did not have a particular vision of how to merge those two concepts, but as an artist, maybe you might be able to think of something that can capture both. I'm happy to send you a digital copy of the book if you'd like to have a better idea of the book's content—I know some artists like to have a good understanding of the material, and others operate better off of just having the theme/feeling. An excerpt is attached. She is open in terms of style, but the artwork should be colorful. She is a fan of the cover for Rufi Thorpe's Margo's Got Money Troubles (boldly colored vintage comic), as a potential starting point. We would likely operate in a few rounds of design, starting with perhaps some of your ideas for potential direction, moving to line sketches for the author's approval, before you start working on the final version. Size: 6" x 9" cover with bleeds Color: Can be in RGB, but note that it will be converted to CMYK (GRACoL 2013) for printing. Style: Open, but should be bold/colorful, and should NOT be childish Deliverables: If possible, working files (Illustrator, Photoshop) are preferred, in case we need to move an element or change a color to accommodate title text. But we're also open to working with you to make those changes if needed. AI: Please, no AI-generated art. Deadline: Ideally, the final front cover would be completed by late March, but we have some flexibility if needed based on your schedule. Please provide rough total project estimate in addition to your hourly rate for budgeting purposes—obviously the final amount will be based on your actual number of hours.
