Food for Schools Application Development Overview The application is a collaborative platform whereby school districts or purchasing groups can manage all aspects of their food and nonfood bids, including item details, associated documents and specifications, member volume projections, bid awards, product information etc. The end product would need to be able to produce distributable bids to potential bidders and then process and archive that information. There are several user roles that determine which parts of the app are exposed to the user. Vendors can see their brands and items on the vendor portal, and also submit bids when appropriate. Our goal is to rebuild a scalable version of our current application that can be managed by the end user without any maintenance and oversight from us. The goal would be to market this system a freestanding tool that could be customized by the user to meet their specific state or district needs. The end users will be foodservice professionals with limited technical ability. The dataset currently holds about 180,000 records and almost 2 GB of data.
