U.S. Whistleblower Legal Expert for Pre-Launch Copy Review + Strategic Advisory (LegalTech Startup)

Job Description We’re a U.S.-based legal tech company focused on consumer protection and litigation. We're preparing to launch a new whistleblower initiative targeting people from companies that knowingly use or conceal toxic substances in consumer products (e.g., pharma, food, cosmetics, chemicals, and environmental hazards). To ensure compliance and credibility, we’re seeking an experienced U.S. attorney or legal consultant with deep expertise in whistleblower laws (especially the False Claims Act and similar programs) to help us pre-launch. Scope of Work This engagement focuses on two key areas: 1) Content Review - Review the landing page copy for legal risks, compliance, and whistleblower protection language. - ~1600 words (approx. 3.5 pages) - Final deliverable: written feedback (corrected errors, rephrazing suggestions, etc.) + optionally a short call to clarify 2) Legal Advisory - Consult on foundational questions such as (but not limited to): - How can we protect whistleblowers from the very first interaction (e.g., attorney-client privilege)? - What are the most suitable government programs for our case types? - What jurisdictional frameworks (federal vs state) should we consider? - What’s the recommended process to refer reports to authorities? Who We’re Looking For - Based in the U.S. - Strong expertise in whistleblower protection statutes (False Claims Act required; OSHA, Dodd-Frank, or environmental law are a plus) - Familiarity with cases involving toxic substances in consumer-facing products or environments - Strategic thinker, not just compliance-focused - Available to start between June 2–4, 2025 - Can commit 2–3 hours next week - Comfortable collaborating directly with our CEO and Director of Product Marketing Engagement Details - Start: June 2–4, 2025 (ideally) - Duration: 1 week (max) - Hours: 2–3 total (can be extended) - Potential Contract Type: -- Fixed-price for content review -- Hourly for advisory calls (via Upwork time tracking) - Location/Timezone: U.S.-based only; must be available during U.S. business hours How to Apply Please include: - A short intro or cover note summarizing your relevant experience - Example(s) of prior work involving whistleblower law (e.g., cases, reviews, advisories) - Your availability to start between June 2–4, 2025 We’re reviewing applications on a rolling basis and hope to make a selection quickly.
