Project Overview: The Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA) is seeking an experienced instructional designer or Canvas LMS specialist to create a branded, reusable course template that we can use across all of our professional development offerings. The ideal candidate will have deep familiarity with Canvas course design, accessibility and usability best practices, and a strong eye for clean, professional visual design that aligns with our brand. About Us: IHA is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing health literacy to improve health outcomes. Our asynchronous professional development courses—ranging from plain language communication to digital health literacy—serve a wide range of professionals across public health, healthcare, and education. Scope of Work: Design and build a flexible, user-friendly Canvas course template that includes: A visually cohesive home page/landing page aligned with IHA branding A customizable course navigation structure (modules, pages, quizzes, etc.) Placeholder content that demonstrates ideal formatting for: Learning objectives Instructional text Multimedia content (videos, images) Downloadable resources Interactive elements A template module structure (e.g., Introduction, Lesson, Activity, Knowledge Check, Summary) A basic quiz/assessment shell Clear guidance for IHA staff on how to duplicate, modify, and populate the template with content Built-in accessibility and mobile responsiveness Consistent use of fonts, colors, and design elements following our brand guidelines (provided) Deliverables: A working Canvas course template installed in our Canvas instance A brief guide or walkthrough for internal staff (written or video format) Up to two rounds of revisions based on feedback Required Skills and Experience: Demonstrated expertise designing in Canvas LMS Experience building course templates or shell structures Strong knowledge of instructional design best practices Understanding of accessibility (WCAG 2.1), usability, and mobile-first design Ability to translate branding requirements into a polished design Strong communication and project management skills Preferred Qualifications: Experience with health education, public health, or adult learning Familiarity with SCORM integration and interactive learning elements Knowledge of course analytics and learner engagement tools in Canvas Project Timeline: We would like to begin work in June 2025, with completion by mid-July 2025.
