JOB TITLE Research Associate - Black History & Legal Narratives DESCRIPTION We are seeking a U.S.-based Research Associate with a background in African American history, U.S. legal history, or civil rights to support the development of documentary-style video scripts focused on untold stories of racial injustice in America. This is not a content writing role. This is an analysis and synthesis role. You will work directly with a civil rights attorney and historian building one of the fastest-growing Black history platforms online. RESPONSIBILITIES Read academic sources (articles, dissertations, historical analyses) Summarize key themes, contradictions, and patterns Highlight legal and historical context relevant to Black experience in America Suggest questions or directions that may shape the narrative Recommend additional topics, cases, or primary sources as needed Provide clear, structured bullet points that can feed into the scripting process YOU MIGHT BE A GOOD FIT IF You have a background in African American Studies, History, Law, Sociology, or Journalism You’re a graduate student, PhD candidate, recent PhD, or experienced researcher You love storytelling rooted in truth and justice You understand the importance of tone, reverence, and accuracy in representing Black stories You have excellent reading comprehension and can distill deep material into clear takeaways REQUIREMENTS Strong research and reading skills Excellent written English Familiarity with U.S. racial justice history Ability to follow and build on an established creative process Self-motivated, deadline-driven, and detail-focused HOURS & RATE 5–8 hours/week to start (with potential to grow) $15–$20/hour depending on experience This is a long-term opportunity for the right person IMPORTANT NOTE This role does not involve scripting, video editing, or public-facing work.
