I am seeking a children’s book illustrator for a 32-page book I’ve written about a polite pirate. Here are the details: My highest priority is that the illustrations are humorous and show the cheeky personality of my real-life nephew, Lennox. I want readers to giggle because of the silly and funny visuals. Most importantly, Lennox’s facial expressions need to convey the tongue-in-cheek comedy. My second highest priority is that the artwork is beautiful and captivating. The concept of this story is that the artwork begins to reflect the characters’ imagination, as if he’s actually out to sea on a pirate ship. By the end, the visuals return back to normal life. I would like Lennox to look like the real person, so I will provide a photo. I’d like His eyes, hair, ears and facial shape in particular to look a lot like him. Creative thinking is welcome. I have an illustration brief and I have sketched a storyboard, but we don’t need to stick to it 100%. If you have ideas to make it even better, funnier, I am totally open. I would like to include a page with items for kids to find throughout the book. If you feel inspired to help bring this story to life, please respond with your proposal. Additional requirements: - Create the storyboard with unlimited rounds until we agree on it, according to our illustration brief - This is a work-for-hire arrangement, with no licensing fees, where the final art will be owned by the client. - Three rounds of revisions per page. - Collaborative attitude towards character design and visual storytelling. Price: Negotiable. - You provide print-ready files, 8.5x8.5, according to the publisher's specs (Blue Balloon/Ballast Publishing) - Final artwork will be delivered also in .TIF files - Front and back cover art included. For the front cover, we can use artwork from the interior and adapt it for the cover. Most likely I'll want to simplify the background and make the main character stand out. - Spine artwork included - ISBN and barcode to be added to the back cover once I have it (if publisher wants this) - Text will be laid out and placed in final design, and you are willing to work with the publisher's design team to ensure the design is to their standards.
