York County Community College is seeking an experienced WordPress Optimization Specialist to audit, clean, and enhance the performance of our institutional website. This role is critical to improving our website’s loading speed, SEO ranking, and overall user experience to better serve prospective students, current students, faculty, and community partners. Responsibilities: - Conduct a full audit of the current WordPress site to identify performance, UX/UI, and SEO issues - Optimize site speed through caching, image compression, script management, and plugin review - Clean up outdated or unused plugins, themes, and backend elements - Improve site structure and internal linking for better user navigation and search engine indexing - Ensure accessibility compliance and mobile responsiveness - Implement SEO best practices, including meta tags, alt text, and schema markup - Set up tools to monitor ongoing performance (Google Analytics, PageSpeed Insights, etc.) - Provide a detailed report with before/after benchmarks and recommendations for long-term maintenance Qualifications: - Proven experience with WordPress optimization and performance tuning - Strong understanding of SEO, Core Web Vitals, and UX principles - Familiarity with higher education website structures and user needs a plus - Proficiency with HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript - Experience with optimization tools (e.g., WP Rocket, Smush, GTmetrix, Lighthouse, etc.) - Ability to work independently and deliver results quickly - Strong communication and documentation skills
