Description: Hyperlocal media company seeking an experienced digital editor or content manager to help support our digital publishing operations during a short-term staffing transition. We operate six hyperlocal news publications in the Birmingham, Alabama area and need someone who can jump in quickly to keep our digital content flowing smoothly across platforms. You’ll work with our editorial team to ensure stories are published online, newsletters go out on time, and content is adapted effectively for social channels. The right candidate will be organized, proactive, and comfortable managing day-to-day digital operations independently. This is a short-term contract, but for the right person, it could evolve into a full-time opportunity. Responsibilities: Edit and publish daily news and feature content using our CMS (very user-friendly) Assemble, draft and send daily email newsletters Repurpose stories and visuals for social media (Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin) Collaborate with editors and designers to maintain content quality and consistency Monitor content workflows and deadlines Optional: Light video editing or basic image creation for digital channels Optional: Use AI tools (ChatGPT, Canva AI, etc.) to help with content formatting, headline ideas, and repurposing — experience with AI tools is a huge plus Requirements: Prior experience as a digital editor, content manager, or online journalist Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills Ability to work independently and meet fast-moving deadlines Comfortable managing content across multiple platforms (web, email, and social) Bonus points for: Experience with AI-assisted workflows or tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Canva AI Light video or graphic editing skills Familiarity with newsletter platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.) Contract Details: Start Date: ASAP (within the next few days) Duration: 4-6 weeks Hours: 20–30 hours per week (flexible) Time Zone: Must overlap at least 3–4 hours/day with Central Time (US) Opportunity: This role could grow into a full-time position for the right person To Apply: Please share: A short message introducing yourself and your relevant experience Links to recent digital content you've edited or managed (newsletters, web articles, etc.) Your availability to start and weekly capacity Any experience you have using AI tools in editorial workflows
