I'm seeking a skilled and experienced editor—preferably a Black woman—to provide both structural and sensitivity edits for my self-help book, Dating with Intent for Black Girls. The book is centered on empowering Black women in dating and relationships through emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and intentional living. Because of the cultural specificity and emotional depth of the content, it's important to me that the person editing this manuscript shares lived experience with the community I’m writing for. Project Overview: The manuscript is approximately 64,000 words and is in its final draft stages. I’m looking for a detail-oriented editor who can ensure consistency in tone, flow, and structure, while also reviewing the material through a culturally competent lens. The ideal candidate will offer honest, constructive feedback to strengthen the narrative and ensure it is engaging, respectful, and empowering. Responsibilities: Ensure smooth flow and transition between sections and chapters. Standardize formatting, including section breaks and headings. Maintain tone consistency throughout. Remove or revise references that specifically center Black men, shifting to a broader narrative about Black women dating in general—highlight these changes for review. Offer feedback on story structure, pacing, and reader engagement. Conduct a sensitivity read to ensure the content resonates respectfully with Black women. Proofread for grammar, punctuation, and American English style consistency. Fact-check any referenced data or sources. Offer suggestions for expansion, trimming, or added clarity where needed. Requirements: You must be a Black woman with editing experience or background in sensitivity reading, particularly for content centering the Black experience. Strong experience with nonfiction, self-help, or personal development books. Excellent command of English grammar and style. Ability to preserve the author's voice while improving clarity and engagement. Timely communication and ability to meet deadlines. Deliverables: Edited manuscript with tracked changes. A summary of overall feedback and major suggestions. Sensitivity reading notes with highlights of areas revised or needing further discussion. Timeline: Preferably within 3–4 weeks, but open to discussing a reasonable timeline based on your schedule.
