Job Description: We are looking for an experienced Synology and networking professional to help us with several critical tasks across our Synology NAS infrastructure. The main objectives include: Let’s Encrypt & DNS Challenge Automation Automate the DNS challenge process for Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates. Bypass or work around 2FA requirements on the host device as needed to streamline certificate acquisition and renewal using the device ID Ensure the process is secure and reliable. Reverse Proxy Configuration Configure reverse proxy settings within Synology so that our Surveillance Station can be accessed publicly. Ensure correct forwarding so all users can access it via the mobile app or from their homes. NAS Migration (Surveillance System) We have two main Synology NAS devices some cameras are on the old and some are on the new. . We need to move all cameras and licenses from one NAS (older/main) to a new NAS (newly designated main). The new main Synology currently interfaces with five other Synology boxes that record camera feeds. After migration, ensure all existing cameras and their licenses transfer properly, and the new main Synology maintains remote access to the other NAS locations. Best Practices Review Review the main Synology device settings, including notifications and CMS configurations. Provide recommendations on best practices or updates for improved functionality, security, or performance. Deliverables: A fully automated solution for Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate issuance/renewals via DNS challenge. Verified and functional reverse proxy setup allowing secure remote access to Surveillance Station. Successful migration of all cameras and licenses from the old main Synology to the new main Synology, with seamless viewing and recording continuity. Documentation of changes made and any relevant instructions for future maintenance. A summary of best practice improvements, security enhancements, or configuration changes recommended and implemented. Required Skills & Experience: Proven hands-on experience with Synology NAS devices and Synology services such as Surveillance Station, reverse proxy, and CMS. In-depth understanding of Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates, DNS challenges, and 2FA workflows. Strong knowledge of network protocols, DNS management, and reverse proxies (NGINX or others). Comfortable with SSH and backend configurations, including relevant Linux administration skills. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues efficiently. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with multi-site Synology deployments and centralized management (CMS). Familiarity with best practices for surveillance systems, streaming configurations, and data security. Good communication skills to provide clear, step-by-step documentation and training.
