Freelance Email Creative Designer (Lifecycle Marketing) – McClatchy Location: Remote (US-based preferred) Commitment: 15 hours per week Duration: 3-month contract (with potential for extension) McClatchy’s Lifecycle Marketing team is seeking a freelance Email Creative Designer to help craft compelling and visually engaging email templates that drive subscriber acquisition, engagement, and retention. This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of brand, copywriting, design, and implementation—and has hands-on experience bringing customer lifecycle marketing communications to life in Braze. This role may also help craft, design, and implement messages with other digital channels such as push, content cards, in-app messaging, and in-browser messaging. What You’ll Do: - Act as a liaison between Lifecycle Marketing and Brand/Creative teams, helping to build a framework and integrate McClatchy’s brand vision into our customer journeys. - Write, design, and build responsive email templates in Braze for various subscriber lifecycle marketing programs. - Utilize and supplement our AI tools to ensure consistency in brand voice, tone, and design across lifecycle marketing communications. - Optimize email performance by leveraging best practices in design, copy, and technical setup (especially email deliverability best practices with design). - Collaborate with the Brand/Creative team to ensure brand consistency across customer touchpoints. - Work closely with marketers and analysts to iterate on designs based on A/B testing and performance data. - Ensure all email templates follow branding guidelines and email design system and adhere to accessibility standards and responsive design best practices. What We’re Looking For: - Proven experience in email design, copywriting, and implementation. Braze expertise required. - Understanding of Braze Liquid logic for dynamic content personalization. - Strong understanding of HTML/CSS for email and best practices for responsive design. - Experience designing conversion-driven email templates with a focus on user experience. - Proficiency with Figma, Adobe CC, or other design tools. - Knowledge of A/B testing, deliverability best practices, and accessibility in email marketing. - Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple stakeholders. Nice-to-Haves: - Experience with digital channels such as push, in-app messaging, and in-browser messaging. - Experience in the media or publishing industry, with an understanding of subscription-based customer journeys. This is a remote freelance role with a 15-hour weekly commitment for an initial 3-month term, with potential for extension. Interested?
