Description:
We're a growing, woman-owned and disability-led marketing and advertising agency headquartered in Minnesota. We anticipate partnering with this individual from anywhere between 10 and 20 hours per week – though are open to offering more if our new Website Designer and Developer seeks more work with our company. It's important to us that our Website Design and Development partner is comfortable taking on both small and large-budget projects. We welcome professionals who are experts in either website design or website development to apply – we have the capacity to support multiple partners. Website Design + Strategy (25%): • Gathering and evaluating user requirements through email or Teams/Zoom collaboration with us and our clients. • Illustrating design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps. • Designing graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs and widgets. • Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with us and our clients. • Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps. • Build page navigation buttons and search fields, aligning with client brand standards. • Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look like when requested. • Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables). • Prepare and present rough drafts to us and our key stakeholders. • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g. responsiveness). • Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback. • Adhere to style standards on fonts, colors and images. • Investigating user experience design requirements for our suite of digital assets. • Designing UI elements and tools such as navigation menus, search boxes, tabs, and widgets for our digital assets. • Testing UI elements such as CTAs, banners, page layouts, page designs, page flows, and target links for landing pages. Website Development (50%): • Establishing and guiding the website’s architecture, • Implement SEO principles on each website page to maximize content’s reach. • Insert/edit content and media within Content Management Systems (CMS): i.e. WordPress, Wix, Shopify • Designing and implementing new features and functionality per client request. • Researching plugins, testing their deployment and recommending improvements to client sites. • Establishing and guiding the website’s architecture. • Ensuring high-performance and availability and managing all technical aspects of the CMS. • Recommend templates supporting a cost-efficient project. • Helping formulate an effective, responsive design and turning it into a working theme and plugin. Website Hosting Support (25%): • Our Senior Server Administrator manages our secure client hosting through Amazon Web Services. In addition, we have clients on their own servers within GoDaddy, DreamHost, BlueHost and other hosting services. As required, we’d appreciate having our Website Designer + Developer collaborate with our Server Administrator on website development site buildouts, website go-lives, domain purchases, backup processes and more. Website Designer Experience Preferred: • Proven work experience as a website designer and developer • Solid portfolio of modern, high-quality design projects • Beginner knowledge of wireframe tools (e.g. Wireframe.cc and InVision) • Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop • Energized team spirit, a passion for your work, and strong communication skills • Experience in WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace and the like – and with website builders including DiviBuilder, WP Bakery, and Elementor o Background using The7 themes is a bonus • Exceptional time-management skills as we bill in 15 minute increments. • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, UX/UI design or related fields Website Developer Experience Preferred: • Good understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery • Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications • Experience designing and developing responsive design websites • Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc. • Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages • Ability to write code blocks to support client website customization • Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML) • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial • Strong understanding of PHP back-end development • Bachelor’s degree in software development, computer science or related fields
