Project Overview: We’re looking for a digital artist to create a compelling illustration for the 2025 Admiral Nimitz Conference, themed “Pop Culture, Propaganda, and Politics: Reflections on the Pacific War 80 Years Later.” The artwork will be used across promotional materials and swag (like posters, t-shirts, and programs). Creative Direction: The conference focuses on how pop culture reflected and influenced WWII, particularly in the Pacific Theater. We want the artwork to blend recognizable wartime-era pop culture elements with themes of propaganda and politics from the 1940s—especially as seen in comics, film, and early monster media. Visual References & Themes to Include: We’d love to see creative nods to pop culture figures and styles from the WWII era, including: Captain America – particularly his early war-time comic book covers Wonder Woman – as a symbol of wartime strength and feminism Godzilla – as a post-war reflection on nuclear fears (a powerful symbol in Pacific War pop culture) Japanese and American propaganda posters – visual styles or motifs Wartime cartoons – e.g., Bugs Bunny or Popeye in military-themed episodes Rosie the Riveter – iconic for the political and cultural roles of women during the war We’re aiming for a piece that feels retro but bold, with dynamic color and composition. The tone should strike a balance between serious historical reflection and stylized, accessible pop culture imagery. Deliverables: One high-resolution digital illustration (minimum 300 DPI) Format: PNG and layered PSD or AI file Dimensions: 18x24 inches (vertical), adaptable for print and web use Ideal Artist: Someone with experience in retro or comic-style art, with an eye for historical or pop culture detail. If you’re into vintage propaganda, comic art, or mid-century aesthetics, we’d love to see your take!
