Epic EHR System Advisor for Legal Consultation

Purely an advisory role. We are seeking an experienced Epic EHR developer, analyst, or technical consultant to provide advisory services to a legal team regarding Epic system access logs, audit trails, and security protocols. The advisor will not be conducting a forensic audit but will serve as a subject matter expert to help an attorney understand: • How Epic system access logs work • How patient record access is logged, tracked, and audited • What specific Epic screens and reports can show regarding user activity • The significance of certain Epic events and timestamps related to a case • How Break-the-Glass (BTG) and other security measures function The consultant will be expected to answer technical questions, provide guidance on interpreting Epic logs and events, and offer insights that will assist in legal strategy and next steps. Project Goals: 1. Educate the legal team on Epic’s logging, auditing, and security tracking mechanisms. 2. Explain technical terminology found in Epic audit logs. 3. Clarify how user activity is recorded, displayed, and tracked within Epic. 4. Provide expert insights on whether certain activities suggest unauthorized access or HIPAA violations. 5. Advise on what types of reports or logs may be useful in building a legal case. Required Skills & Experience: • Deep expertise in Epic Systems, including audit logs, Clarity database, and security tracking. • Experience as an Epic analyst, administrator, or developer with direct knowledge of how Epic logs access and user actions. • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences, especially attorneys. • Understanding of HIPAA and patient data access compliance. • Prior experience in legal consulting, healthcare IT security, or expert witness work is a plus. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with Epic Hyperspace, Clarity reporting, and Break-the-Glass (BTG) security logs. • Background in healthcare compliance, security, or IT forensics. • Strong consulting or advisory experience. Engagement Details: • One or more consultation sessions with an attorney (via phone, video call, or email). • The consultant will be available to answer technical questions related to Epic audit logs. • No forensic investigation or data analysis required—this is purely an advisory role.
