POSITION: VLOG EDITOR CHANNEL TYPE: Story-Driven, High-Retention Vlogs ⸻ OVERVIEW We are looking for a skilled video editor to join our team and help bring our vlog content to life. Our videos are raw, unfiltered, and unpredictable, capturing real-life moments with humor, community engagement, and storytelling at the core. Your job is not to be noticed—it’s to tell a compelling story that keeps viewers engaged from start to finish. We need someone who understands pacing, comedic timing, and how to craft engaging narratives while maintaining a natural, immersive feel. If you can cut with intention, enhance moments with sound design, and respect the vision of the channel, we want to work with you. ⸻ EDITING PRINCIPLES & RULES 1. INTRO/HOOK • The first 5 seconds must deliver on the promise of the thumbnail & title. • Show, don’t tell—use B-roll, action shots, and movement to engage the viewer immediately. • Little to no talking-head intro unless absolutely necessary. • Use SFX (whooshes, risers, hits) to hype the audience. • You can use a Cold Open (highlight clip to set the tone) or a Warm Opening (brief context before diving in). 2. PACING • The goal is high retention—every scene should have a purpose. • Avoid unnecessary cuts that break immersion. Let moments breathe when necessary. • Cut based on emotion, reaction, and story progression, not just time. • Keep energy levels balanced—if a slow moment is necessary, make sure it pays off. • Watch the video in full-screen before finalizing to feel the pacing as a viewer. 3. COMEDY & VIBES • Timing is everything. Holding a shot for an extra second can make a joke land harder. • Awkward silences are powerful. Use them intentionally for humor. • Go wide when body language adds to the joke or the moment. • If a joke requires context, callback to a previous moment using B-roll or cutaways. 4. MONTAGE & STORY PROGRESSION • Every montage must move the story forward. If it doesn’t add value, cut it. • Use action shots (walking, laughing, interacting, dancing, etc.) to drive momentum. • Pair strong visuals with music that enhances emotion, but never overpowers. • Cut to the beat when needed but prioritize storytelling over rhythm. 5. IMMERSION & ENGAGEMENT • Respect the audience’s time. Make every second count. • Use sound design to subtly enhance moments—don’t overdo it. • Subtitles should be used sparingly but effectively. Emphasize key moments. • Match cuts and transitions should feel natural, not forced. 6. TENSION & RELATIONSHIPS • Whether it’s rivalry, friendship, or romance—let body language and eye contact build tension. • Hold on reactions and expressions instead of cutting too fast. • Let moments play out naturally when tension is rising—cutting too early kills the moment. ⸻ WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN AN EDITOR: • Experience in storytelling-based editing. • Understands retention & pacing for YouTube’s algorithm. • Knows how to edit humor & tension. • Can add subtle yet impactful sound design. • Works well with feedback & can match the channel’s vision. This is an opportunity to be part of something bigger than just cuts and transitions. You’ll be helping craft experiences that keep viewers engaged, entertained, and coming back for more. If interested, we can provide video examples to guide you in the editing style. Apply now and let’s create something dope together!
