Book Web Designer & Marketing Specialist (Contract Position) The 1 and Only – Remote Are you a creative, tech-savvy web designer with a passion for helping authors build their online presence? The 1 and Only, a Christian-based publishing and storytelling company, is looking for a skilled Book Web Designer & Marketing Specialist to design stunning, functional author websites and support their digital marketing setup. Position: Contract Web Designer & Marketing Specialist Pay: $300 per project (with potential for higher pay based on experience) Schedule: Minimum 1 website every 2 weeks Location: Remote About Us At The 1 and Only, we bring people’s stories to life—one chapter, one book, one platform at a time. We support authors not only in writing and publishing their books but also in building a digital presence that helps them connect with readers, grow their brand, and sell their work. As a Christian-based company, we often work with faith-driven authors and value strong communication, professionalism, and purpose-driven work. What You’ll Do Design and build professional, user-friendly websites for authors Include at minimum: A compelling landing page A branding/about page An online store to sell their book (with Bookvault integration) Optional: Appointment booking feature for speaking engagements or consultations Integrate Bookvault for print-on-demand book sales Set up and connect an email service platform (e.g., Mailchimp, ConvertKit, or similar) Ensure websites are easily editable so the author can make future updates Communicate directly with clients to gather information and provide guidance Deliver a completed project every 2 weeks, with the potential for more based on performance Ensure sites are responsive, mobile-friendly, and optimized for basic SEO Required Qualifications Proven experience in web design, particularly for personal brands, authors, or small businesses Proficient in platforms like WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, or similar Experience integrating print-on-demand services (Bookvault preferred) Ability to connect and automate email marketing platforms Strong eye for visual design, layout, branding, and usability Ability to design clean, simple, and modern websites that reflect the author’s personality and goals Excellent communication skills and client-facing experience Self-motivated with a reliable workflow and ability to meet deadlines Experience setting up online stores (e.g., WooCommerce, Shopify Lite, or Stripe-integrated shops) Knowledge of basic SEO best practices, Google Analytics, and marketing funnels is a plus Comfortable working with Christian authors and incorporating faith-based messaging where appropriate Bonus Skills (Not Required but Valued) Graphic design for social media or book promotion Experience setting up booking platforms (Calendly, Acuity, etc.) Video or audio integration for podcasts, interviews, or trailers Digital ad experience (Google Ads, Facebook Ads, etc.) Copywriting skills for landing pages or calls-to-action Compensation $300 per project (website with 3 pages + integrations) Willing to pay more based on experience and quality Flexible contract work with potential to scale to multiple projects per month How to Apply Send us your portfolio (websites you’ve built), a short cover letter, and any relevant experience you have with Bookvault, email marketing, or working with authors.
