Social Media Growth

Hourly: $3.00 - $100.00

The Center for Education Reform (CER) is seeking a strategic, data-savvy, and creative social media engagement specialist to help us significantly grow and activate our online audience. Our mission is to expand educational opportunity and innovation across the U.S., and we need someone who can bring that mission to life through compelling digital engagement. This is not a content factory role — we’re looking for a partner who understands how to use social media platforms to build relationships, influence policy conversations, and amplify thought leadership. Your primary objective will be to increase engagement — comments, shares, saves, replies, and quality followers — across our active platforms, including X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. The focus is specifically on reaching education reform stakeholders, policymakers, the media, and civically engaged citizens who care deeply about the future of education in America. We’re looking for someone who can assess our current engagement performance, identify gaps, and deliver a platform-specific strategy that aligns with our organizational goals and distinctive voice. You will take the lead on daily engagement activities, including monitoring and interacting with our audience and relevant thought leaders in the education space. You’ll help us amplify key messages by boosting the reach and interaction of our existing assets — videos, op-eds, podcast clips, and timely news reactions. Your work will include creating and executing tactical campaigns, including hashtag strategies, live tweet sessions, quote cards, and interactive content like stories and polls. You’ll also be responsible for tracking performance using social media insights and creating regular reports, with clear recommendations to adjust and optimize our efforts over time. Coordination with our internal team is critical, and you’ll help align engagement efforts with key events, campaigns, and content calendar goals. You’re a great fit if you have at least three years of experience increasing social media engagement for advocacy organizations, policy-oriented nonprofits, or issue-based campaigns. Ideally, you already understand education reform and the importance of innovation and opportunity in U.S. education, or you can get up to speed quickly. You know how to elevate serious, nuanced content in a way that resonates with both policy insiders and the public. You’re comfortable engaging on X (Twitter) and LinkedIn with decision-makers and influencers, and you can confidently interpret platform data and use it to guide your recommendations. You should be available for at least 15 to 20 hours per month, with flexibility around major moments and campaigns. It’s a bonus if you’ve worked with a national education organization or public policy nonprofit, have basic graphic or video editing skills, or are familiar with the D.C. media and policy landscape. To apply, please send a brief cover letter outlining your approach to increasing engagement, your resume, links to two social media accounts you’ve grown or managed, and specific examples of engagement wins you’ve delivered in past roles or contracts. The Center for Education Reform works to expand innovation and opportunity in U.S. education to secure a more prosperous future for all Americans. Learn more about our work at edreform.com.
