Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Business Consultant – Library Specialist to join our team of independent contractors. This role is ideal for a professional with expertise in academic library strategy, digital transformation, and AI-driven applications in higher education. The consultant will work with universities to develop strategic plans for their library systems, integrating emerging technologies, optimizing digital resources, and aligning libraries with institutional goals. As an independent contractor, you will play a critical role in helping universities reimagine the future of their libraries—leveraging data, AI, and digital tools to enhance access, efficiency, and student success. Key Responsibilities - Library Strategy Development: Collaborate with university stakeholders to assess current library operations, identify challenges, and develop comprehensive strategic plans that align with institutional objectives. - AI & Digital Transformation: Guide universities in leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics to enhance research capabilities, optimize library workflows, and personalize student and faculty experiences. - Technology Integration: Recommend and implement digital library solutions, including cloud-based platforms, virtual research assistants, and automated cataloging systems. User-Centered Design: Apply Design Thinking methodologies to create innovative library models that improve user experiences for students, faculty, and researchers. - Open Access & Digital Collections: Develop strategies for digital repositories, open-access resources, and e-learning integration to support academic research and digital scholarship. - Strategic Partnerships & Funding: Identify potential grants, partnerships, and revenue-generating opportunities to support library innovation and long-term sustainability. - Operational Optimization: Analyze and improve library staffing models, service delivery, and budget allocation to maximize efficiency. - Training & Change Management: Provide guidance on best practices for library staff to adapt to new technologies and workflows, ensuring smooth implementation and adoption. Qualifications & Experience - Master’s degree or higher in Library and Information Science, Higher Education Administration, Business Strategy, or a related field. - Proven experience (5+ years) in academic library strategy, digital transformation, or AI applications in library systems. - Expertise in higher education consulting and familiarity with academic governance structures. - Strong understanding of AI tools, data analytics, and automation technologies for libraries. - Experience leading Design Thinking workshops and facilitating collaborative strategic planning sessions. - Familiarity with institutional repositories, digital asset management, and knowledge management systems. - Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills. - Ability to work independently as a 1099 independent contractor while collaborating within a team-oriented consulting environment.
