Lead Developer for VoIP/Telecom Project – From Vision to Execution

We’re hoping to build a custom voicemail management platform and are looking for a technical leader to help guide us from early vision to successful build. This is not a typical dev role—we’re looking for someone who can own the technical direction, help define scope, and lead the build of a VoIP-powered system with custom logic and features. About the Project We’re developing a modern telecom product that combines custom voicemail handling, call routing —designed to simplify communication for businesses and residential and enhance caller experience. Key functionality will include: Custom Voicemail Logic: Dynamic voicemail handling based on caller profiles or rules. VoIP Integration: Likely using platforms like Twilio, SignalWire, Vonage, Asterisk, or similar. Admin and User dashboard for users to view and resolve messages, etc. We have a strong product vision and market insight, but we need your expertise to make it real. What We're Looking For Must-Haves: Experience with VoIP technologies (e.g. SIP, Twilio, SignalWire, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, etc.) Deep understanding of telecom architecture, routing logic, and voice APIs Ability to scope technical projects, offer reliable estimates, and help shape the roadmap Collaboration with the development and support teams: Strong communication skills are a must. Proven ability to own full-stack development or lead teams Nice-to-Haves: Familiarity with custom voicemail systems or voicemail-to-text Experience building admin interfaces or dashboards for non-technical users Past work on programmable voice or messaging systems Knowledge of HIPAA, CPNI, or other telecom compliance frameworks (depending on client profile) ⚙️ Your Role You’ll be expected to: Help refine and scope the MVP Provide a technical roadmap and build estimates Advise on the best architecture, tools, and frameworks Lead implementation (and potentially help grow the dev team) This starts as a strategy + scoping engagement, with strong potential to extend into full development if we’re aligned.
