I'd like to remove small wall to open up my kitchen. It is potentially load bearing, so I need a Florida licensed structural engineer to assess, and design a solution to remove it, provide any documentation required for permitting, and construction plans that I can give to my contractor. I have a detailed model of my house created in SketchUp. I included screenshots but it can also be accessed here: https://app.sketchup.com/share/tc/northAmerica/qpeFtsblGsk?stoken=tGobhvGjNEMkU231Z82j2CJNtyn5ogvkHPvNfnKGXx0Rm1klcKwnRcD9I-eynd4y&source=web I'm showing the wall I want to remove in red. The white walls are wood framed. The house is slab on grade. The ceiling joists are notched and toe nailed into the double 2x8 beam, which is currently supported by the wall I want to remove. Three slanted king studs rest on this beam and support the ridge beam. The house has a heavy tile roof. Design Preferences -Economical -Not include any beams protruding below the ceiling -I'd rather not disconnect all the joists to replace the existing beam, unless there are no other, more economical options. -I would prefer not to add a very tall beam on the attic floor that would make the attic difficult to access, since I already need to commando crawl up there as it is. If needed, I'd prefer to elevate the new beam so I can crawl under it. If it is possible to replace the 1x8 collar ties with 2x4s, then I would be happy with the concept shown in the attached screenshot, with new members in blue, removed members in red. I would like to use LVL for the beam to keep the beam height short. Posts are not shown, but they will need to be part of the design as well as reinforcing the existing stud walls below. I do not want to modify the slab below, if possible, but if it is necessary, you will need to provide plans for that as well. My house flooded recently, so the walls are currently open. I look forward to working with you!
