Description We’re looking for a strategic and detail-oriented freelancer to support the discovery and planning phase of a community college website redesign (higher education or similar relevant experience strongly preferred). This project is already in motion, and your role will focus on auditing the current site and helping define the future structure of the new site — a critical first step in improving the college’s digital presence. Responsibilities: -Conduct a full audit of the current website -Inventory all existing pages using tools like Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, or browser-based crawlers -Organize content by type, purpose, and audience -Evaluate and categorize each page for relevance, redundancy, and usefulness -Make strategic recommendations for a marketing-focused site map based on best practices for community colleges and higher education websites -Draft a proposed sitemap indicating which pages should be kept, combined, removed, or added -Deliver findings in a clear, organized format decided in collaboration with our project manager -Collaborate with our internal team to review and refine the sitemap Required Skills and Experience -Strong understanding of higher education marketing (community college experience is a significant plus) -Experience conducting website audits and content inventories -Background in information architecture, UX strategy, or content strategy -Ability to make thoughtful recommendations for content and structure that support prospective student engagement -Familiarity with web audit tools such as Screaming Frog or Sitebulb -Organized, detail-oriented, and able to present findings clearly -Comfortable working independently while taking direction from a small team Potential for Ongoing Work This project has the potential to lead to additional work, including: Content planning and writing Page-level strategy development Ongoing collaboration during the design and wireframing phases We are ultimately looking for someone who can own and manage the information architecture component of this website project.
