1. Redesign/Move Components from Fusion 360 to whatever product you use. Currently I have in Fusion 360 a brush cylinder with holes and insertable bristles, another cylinder for electronics (this done separately and not part of this project), top cover and bottom cover (for electric cable). No buttons, no settings, the design is simple. Brush Cylinder Replace Plastic Holes with Metal Mesh: Model a metal mesh sleeve (stainless steel or other material) to replace the perforated plastic. Design a frame or mounting system (e.g., grooves, clips) to secure the mesh to the cylinder. Ensure tolerances for thermal expansion and vibration. Specify mesh properties: wire gauge, hole size, corrosion resistance, and finish (e.g., powder-coated black to match CMF). Top/Bottom Covers Snap-Fit Redesign: Replace glued joints with cantilever snap fits or torsional snaps for assembly/disassembly. Adjust wall thickness, undercuts, and engagement angles to match production material (e.g., ABS or PC plastic). Perform FEA simulation in Fusion 360 (or other software) to test retention force and fatigue resistance. 2. Update Prototype Validation Test 3D-Printed Redesigns: Print snap-fit covers in production-grade material (e.g., via SLS nylon) to validate fit/function. Assemble metal mesh with the brush cylinder to check airflow, structural integrity, and ergonomics. 3. Prepare Manufacturing Documents Technical Drawings (PDF/DXF) Brush Cylinder: Dimensions, tolerances (GD&T), mesh attachment details, and surface finish. Call out electroplating or anodizing for metal parts (if applicable). Covers: Snap-fit geometry with ±0.1mm tolerances. Include cross-sectional views of snap engagements. General: Assembly sequence, critical interfaces (e.g., cable exit points), and hardware specs (screws, seals). CMF Specifications, for example: Colors: Pantone Black (e.g., PMS Black 6C) for plastic, matte/semi-gloss finish. Materials: ABS/PC for covers (UL94 V-0 flame-rated). Stainless steel 304 for mesh (non-corrosive, lightweight). Finishes: Textured plastic to hide seams; powder-coated metal mesh. Bill of Materials (BOM) List all components, materials, finishes, and quantities. Highlight outsourced parts (e.g., pre-fabricated metal mesh). Assembly Guide Step-by-step instructions for snap-fit assembly and mesh installation. Torque specs for screws (if used) and stress limits for snaps. 4. Manufacturer Communication Industry-Specific Requirements: Highlight compliance with IEC 60335 (hair appliance safety) and RoHS. Specify IP ratings for water resistance (if applicable). Request Quotes: Provide technical drawings, CMF, and BOM to manufacturers. Ask about tooling costs for injection molds (covers) and metal stamping (mesh). 5. Pre-Production Checklist Confirm DFM feedback from manufacturers (e.g., draft angles, wall thickness). Order T1 samples for final validation.
