Want to design - and build - an Arduino-controlled mechanical air pump for an experiment I'm writing about. This is not a ventilator but rather a simulator of how lungs work. It is essentially a mechanical lung based on a bag, bellows, or drum and a linear actuator or step motor. The maximum inhalation is 500ml. I need to control the speed of inhalation, time of inhalation (proxy for volume), pause between inhalation and exhalation, and the speed and time of exhalation. I will connect the bag/bellows to a CPAP machine to provide the air monitoring. The settings should be allowed to be changed in the software and I may add randomness to them.
