Job Title: Mechanical Engineer for Competitive Design Strategy & Patentable Alternatives (Freelance/Contract) Project Overview: I’m an independent inventor with an existing patent for a physical product that’s preparing to go to market. My goal is to stay ahead of potential competition by identifying alternative ways someone might design around my invention—and then patent those alternative solutions myself. I'm looking for a mechanical engineer with a creative and analytical mind who can help explore, conceptualize, and document different design approaches that could compete with or mimic the functionality of my product. What You’ll Do (Deliverables): Review the current invention and patent (under NDA) Analyze the core function, strengths, and vulnerabilities of the patented design Brainstorm and develop multiple feasible alternative designs that achieve a similar result via different methods or mechanisms Evaluate the uniqueness and patentability of each alternative concept Create basic sketches, diagrams, or explanations for each concept that could be used in future patent applications Optional: assist in drafting technical material for patent filings or work with an IP attorney if needed Skills & Experience We’re Looking For: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field Strong understanding of mechanical systems and creative product design Experience with patent strategy, especially designing around existing patents Familiarity with competitive product design and engineering problem-solving Bonus: experience working with solo inventors, IP attorneys, or startup founders How We’ll Work Together: Remote freelance role with flexible hours—results matter more than clocked time Communication via email and occasional video calls (Zoom/Google Meet) NDA will be required before we discuss the patent and design You'll work directly with me (a solo inventor), and I value open, collaborative communication and proactive thinking Timeline & Compensation: Looking to begin ASAP Project estimated to run 2–6 weeks, with possible extensions
