Job Title: Mobile App Developer for Android Wearable Devices Job Type: Freelance (Potential for Ongoing Part-Time or Full-Time Work) Payment Terms: Flat rate Location: USA Start Date: 5/7/25 Project Due: 30-45 days after start Job Description We are seeking a US based, pro level/highly experienced Mobile App Developer with a proven track record in creating apps for Android wearable devices to translate and develop an existing iOS/Apple Watch app into an Android-compatible wearable application (ie. Samsung watches, Google Pixel watches, and Fitbit). This project includes end-to-end development, from research to deployment, and could evolve into a long-term partnership based on performance and project requirements. This role is perfect for an obsessively detail-oriented developer who thrives on delivering high-quality, user-centric applications and has experience working with cross-platform app development. You will work closely with our current iOS developer to ensure the Android app mirrors the iOS app’s functionality, design, and performance while maintaining seamless integration with the existing back-end database. The existing app pulls heart rate data into our app where the heart rate data is analyzed and pushed back in a summary to the user. After onboarding screens (acquiring user permissions), the current Apple app only has 3 user screens; 1) a profile page showing data results, 2) a home page that shows when the user's heart rate is being monitored, 3) a team page where users can generate a QR code to compete with others. Key Responsibilities Research & Planning: Analyze the current iOS/Apple Watch app to understand its features, design, and user flow. Conduct research on Android wearable device requirements, guidelines, and compatibility. Create a comprehensive project roadmap and timeline for Android app development. App Development: Develop a native Android wearable app with identical functionality, appearance, and user experience as the current iOS app. Ensure seamless integration with the existing back-end database. Incorporate Android-specific optimizations while maintaining parity with the iOS app. Coordination & Collaboration: Work closely with the current iOS developer to ensure consistency in functionality, design, and data flow. Utilize Firebase as the backend cloud computing service and app development platform. Communicate regularly with stakeholders to provide progress updates and address concerns. Quality Assurance & Testing: Conduct rigorous beta testing to owner's satisfaction to identify and resolve bugs or performance issues. Optimize the app for performance, security, and user experience across various Android wearable devices. Deployment: Prepare the app for submission to the Google Play Store, ensuring compliance with all guidelines and requirements. Manage the submission process, including addressing any feedback from the Play Store review team. Post-Deployment Support: Provide technical support during the initial post-launch phase (2 months). Implement refinements and updates based on user feedback and performance analytics. Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills: Proficient in Android app development, specifically for wearable devices. Experience with Health Connect and Samsung Health. Strong knowledge of Android Studio, Kotlin, or Java. Experience with APIs, database integration, and cross-platform data synchronization. Experience with Firebase (BaaS). Familiarity with Google Play Store submission and approval processes. Understanding of wearable UI/UX design principles and regulations. Professional Experience: Proven track record in developing and launching Android apps for wearable devices. Experience working with collaborative teams, including iOS developers and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Proactive, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Fluent in English required. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Apple Watch and iOS app development for better collaboration with the iOS developer. Knowledge of cross-platform development frameworks like Flutter or React Native (not required but a plus). Preference will be given to those who have developed and successfully launched fitness tracking mobile apps. Compensation Payment is project-based. Additional compensation opportunities for post-deployment refinements (after 2 months), and performance optimization. Future long-term maintenance contracts are not guaranteed but may be discussed separately based on performance and organizational needs.
