About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled Junk Bond & Distressed Debt Analyst to identify, evaluate, and execute high-yield investment opportunities in companies nearing default or undergoing financial distress. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in analyzing below-investment-grade (junk) bonds, distressed debt, and restructuring situations to acquire strategic stakes in undervalued companies with substantial underlying assets. Key Responsibilities: Conduct in-depth credit analysis of high-yield bonds and distressed debt securities. Identify companies at risk of default or already in financial distress but with valuable assets (real estate, IP, equipment, etc.). Evaluate capital structures, covenant terms, and recovery prospects in bankruptcy or restructuring scenarios. Develop investment theses for potential acquisitions of majority stakes or controlling positions. Work closely with legal and restructuring teams to assess litigation risks, creditor negotiations, and bankruptcy proceedings. Monitor macroeconomic trends, interest rate movements, and sector-specific risks affecting junk bond performance. Build financial models to project recovery rates, liquidation values, and potential equity upside post-restructuring. Collaborate with private equity, hedge funds, or activist investors to structure deals. Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in high-yield bond analysis, distressed debt investing, restructuring, or special situations investing. Strong background in credit analysis, bankruptcy law, and corporate restructuring. Proficiency in financial modeling (DCF, LBO, recovery analysis) and valuation techniques. Familiarity with bond covenants, lien structures, and inter-creditor dynamics. Experience working with hedge funds, private credit, or distressed debt funds is a plus. Ability to source off-market opportunities and negotiate with creditors/insolvency professionals. CFA, MBA, or relevant advanced degree preferred but not required.
