We are seeking a Language-Focused Instructional Designer to lead the development of dynamic, culturally immersive ESL programs. These programs are designed for adult learners—college graduates, entrepreneurs, and public servants—who want to strengthen their English while also becoming fluent in how Americans think, speak, and work. You will be the design lead for the language pillar of our platform. Other instructional designers will be focused on entrepreneurship and technology, but your focus will be to shape English language instruction into a transformative gateway—helping learners not just speak the language, but live it. Key Responsibilities Design and structure hybrid ESL courses rooted in American cultural fluency, communication styles, and professional use cases Develop project-based and experiential learning materials that teach English through movies, music, business scenarios, storytelling, and real-world use Create engaging learning outcomes, scripts, speaking activities, multimedia exercises, and assessments aligned with learner goals Ensure content meets the needs of adult learners at intermediate to advanced proficiency levels, with real-world aspirations Collaborate with product managers, media creators, and instructors to bring content to life across formats (live, asynchronous, mobile) Build reusable templates and standards that support consistency and scale across ESL programs Use JIRA, Confluence, and collaboration tools to document work and align with cross-functional teams Guide junior content developers or reviewers working under your direction on ESL materials Advocate for quality, accessibility, and learner-centered design across all language products Stay up to date on modern trends in ESL pedagogy, immersive learning, and global English education Qualifications 5+ years of experience designing ESL or English language learning content for adult or professional learners Strong foundation in instructional design methodologies and second language acquisition theory Experience integrating American cultural context, idioms, and workplace communication into ESL programming Proven ability to design for hybrid delivery—synchronous, asynchronous, and mobile-first formats Clear, collaborative communication skills with both creative and technical teams Experience creating learner-centered, project-based language learning experiences Familiarity with content development workflows using tools like JIRA, Confluence, LMS platforms Bonus: Experience designing for learners in international contexts who are engaging with American institutions or business environments Who You Are You are an educator, cultural interpreter, and builder. You understand that learning English is not just about speaking—it is about being understood, building trust, and feeling confident in a global context. You know that tone, timing, and clarity matter just as much as vocabulary. You want to help learners not just sound fluent, but feel fluent in how Americans express ideas, lead conversations, and connect across cultures. You are energized by the challenge of designing a new kind of language program—one that turns curiosity into confidence and helps unlock real career opportunities. How to Apply Please submit: Your résumé or CV A brief note explaining your interest in this mission and your approach to language instruction design A sample of previous ESL course design work or a link to your portfolio (preferred) Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
