Freelance Technical Writer—Help Center & Support Content


Benefit Allocation Systems (BAS) is seeking a freelance technical writer to support the development and maintenance of multiple Help Center sites using Zendesk. This role will focus on creating clean, easy-to-follow knowledge base articles that help users and administrators answer their HR and benefits administration questions—before they even have to ask. You’ll be managing article creation across multiple Zendesk Help Centers—some with overlapping content, others with site-specific requirements. We encourage the use of AI tools to help accelerate drafting, generate variations, and streamline workflows as long as the content remains accurate, on-brand, and human-reviewed. Use of AI must not involve uploading or inputting any identifying information about the company, and writers are responsible for confirming that all content produced is complete, accurate, and aligned with project requirements. Content areas for these articles include benefits administration topics such as ACA, Billing (LoA, Premium, Retiree, Location), COBRA, Dependent Audits, Enrollment, FSA, HRA, EE Legal Plans, New Hire Onboarding, as well as account setup and platform navigation. Responsibilities: - Write clear and accurate support articles for our Zendesk Help Centers. - Follow BAS formatting and voice standards for article structure and tone. - Translate complex tasks and workflows into simple, step-by-step instructions. - Use AI tools appropriately to assist in drafting, editing, or ideating—but always apply editorial & human oversight. - Ensure consistent language and structure across shared content while adapting appropriately for site-specific needs. - Edit and maintain articles as services evolve, compliance regulations change, or platforms update. - Collaborate with BAS subject matter experts and the marketing team to ensure accuracy. Requirements: - Proven experience writing technical or support content for SaaS, benefits/HR, or tech. - Strong grammar, structure, and ability to simplify complex topics. - Flexible and comfortable working from guides, workflows, written instructions, or verbal walk-throughs. Bonus Points For: - Experience with HR, benefits administration, or compliance content. - Familiarity with Zendesk and managing Help Centers. - Experience using AI to support content development and workflow efficiency. *Note: This is an ongoing freelance opportunity (approximately 1–2 days per week). We’re looking for someone interested in a longer-term collaboration, not just a one-time project.
