Job Description: Southern Queens Park Association Inc. (SQPA) is launching a storytelling and awareness campaign to honor over five decades of community leadership, youth empowerment, and Black-led institution building in Southeast Queens. We are seeking an experienced scriptwriter to develop a compelling script for an animated, comic-style cartoon designed to engage and inspire the community. The final piece will be divided into three standalone segments, focusing on: Past – The founding of Roy Wilkins Park and SQPA, and historic partnerships (e.g., NAACP Jamaica Branch, Springfield Rifles, Roy Wilkins Dolphins) Present – Current youth programs (Compass, Community Schools @ IS 8), community leadership, and revitalization work Future – SQPA’s 10+ year vision: Goodrich Legacy Center, cultural stewardship, and community development The ideal candidate will have: Experience writing for nonprofits or mission-driven organizations A deep understanding of culturally responsive storytelling Ability to synthesize research and stakeholder input into a concise and engaging script Sensitivity to the significance of Black-led institutions and community history Deliverables include: A finalized script for a three-part animated short (estimated total runtime: 6–8 minutes) Collaboration on a master project timeline and creative brief Support in developing a research packet for illustrators Bonus if you have: Knowledge of Southeast Queens or similar communities Background in education, history, or civic engagement Timeline: This phase runs from May through June 30, 2025. Must be available for periodic check-ins with our creative team and stakeholders throughout the scripting process.
