I purchased a vehicle in april 2024 from a dealership in texas. I financed the vehicle and they submitted my state sales tax to the state of Illinois. I am attempting to register the vehicle in South Dakota which requires my dealership to sign off on a simple letter stating that they remitted the sales tax on my behalf to Illinois (which has been verified). This will help me avoid SD sales tax, double taxation. The dealership has not been forthcoming with this....not exactly sure why as they performed their job well and remitted the taxes in a timely fashion. I am hoping a letter from an attorney encouraging them to complete this and avoid any protracted process will help. I can provide any relevant details needed.
